zahoor kamal most likely the iPhone X will update what it knows about your face and it's many shapes over time as you scan yourself which would be how you could do things like grow beards and change other attributes without it being a problem.
I'm kind of weirdo too :-) I'm right handed, but for ages used to wear any watch on my right hand. People wearing Apple Watch on right hand usually wear it with crown on the right side to reach the crown with left thumb. Well, my crown is on the left side and somehow it felt right and natural for me from the beginning :-)
I wear my Apple Watch inside out. It will makes it more attractive, actually there are 2 peoples comes to me and ask what watch is it? I told them is Apple Watch X
Love this! Thank you! I had not seen that setting. There is one other great reason for reverse crown orientation -- I sometimes unintentionally invoke Siri when I bend my wrist backwards. This happens most frequently when I work out and wear work-out gloves. No more of that with reverse crown!
I tried reverse crown when I first got it, but couldn't get into it. It was uncomfortable to me. It means I have to reach around the watch, reaching further, and do tend to partly cover the screen. Top right feels very normal and natural to me
Yep. I'm sold on this orientation for the apple watch. I constantly hit the crown button with my wrist when cycling and just moving around, even with a bumper case on. Flipping the watch really reduced that a lot, and now the crown doesn't dig into my wrist when I flex my hand. I think that because of how easy it was to bump the crown, it also occasionally messed up my strava running workouts and commuter cycling workouts.
Thank you Serenity for showing me a better way to wear my Apple Watch!!! Both my wife and I tried it the way you are wearing and it is SOOO much better! We are both right handed and wear our watches on the left wrist. We always wore them with the crown on the right hand side and constantly complained about bumping the button or the crown or activating Siri. Once I saw this video I suggested we try it and it has been brilliant. Using the crown with your right hand is no issue as you sort of naturally position your hand with the thumb on the left and index finger on the right hand side of the watch anyway as you reach for it, the only difference is you now use your thumb on the crown instead of the index finger. Since the change we have had no accidental button presses and haven't had Siri waiting for us to talk to her! Thank you again!
Your roller derby reason is similar to one of my primary reasons. I’m a truck driver, and whenever I fuel, or when I’m opening trailer doors, I always inadvertently trigger Siri when wearing in regular orientation. As you said, it’s MUCH more ergonomical, too.
Great video! I’m always accidentally adjusting the volume and getting that annoying little beep when driving and making a turn while listening to Bluetooth audio from my iPhone since WatchOS 4. I’m going to try wearing my watch this way and seeing if it helps.
I also wear my series 2 the same way. But I do it for working out and lifting weights. If i would wear it the way you call traditional . When I do push ups , pull ups or bench press I would push the crown in and it would make the watch do something I didn't want it to. Because the back of my hand would push on the the crown when my wrist was pushed backwards. I also think it would put excessive pressure on the crown . Which I think would possible damage the button or lose the water resistance.
If you're wearing the watch in a way that the back of your hand can touch the crown your wrist is either broken or you wear your watch way up on your wrist which isn't how a watch is supposed to be worn. I just did pushups to test this and my hand doesn't come anywhere close to touching the crown. :-|
After watching this video, I tried it and wondered why I did do this sooner, ? Wearing it reversed protects the crown and stops me from accidental button pushes. Thank you for the info.
What’s the most ergonomic way to wear the Apple Watch if you are left handed? If I flip my watch so the crown is on the inside of my wrist, the crown is at the top so it’s pretty hard to reach
My husband recently gifted me with an apple watch. First thing I asked him since I wear the watch on my left wrist was can you make the screen turn so I can have the buttons facing me? He said absolutely! I didn't realize this was an issue for people. It is most comfortable for me for the same reasons you mentioned. I don't like the knobs touching my hand and feel like they are protected by have them towards me as you showed in the video! ;-) Your video popped up after searching what is red dot on watch... nice video!
So will this make it easier for lefties? On the right wrist, Reverse crown would still put the crown on the top side, so is there really any benefit for us? The default bottom left is aggravating enough
I wear mine on my right wrist as I’m left handed, also reverse crown style. Took me a while to realise I could swap the strap around too which made it easier to fasten
I ware it upside down sine my first Apple Watch Sport. The problems is when I bent my wrist it some how press the button to showdowns, restart, call 91, ect. Especially when you working with glows.
Is it possible to control music playback without using the touchscreen? I use a smartwatch while wearing gloves for work. Mostly for listening to music, reading emails & text messages. It would also be cool to use it as GPS maps while I'm on my scooter (again wearing gloves). Keep in mind I've never touched an Apple watch in person. Sorry if that's a newb question. REPLY
I wear mine this way too! When I workout the crown kept getting pressed where my wrist and hand creased. Especially when doing burpees or workouts where I used gloves.
I switched to this orientation because my watch kept taking screenshots when I would flex my wrist backwards. Somehow doing that pressed both the buttons. I know this feature can be disabled but I still want to be able to take an occasional screenshot. After I changed to the reverse orientation I realized using my thumb to press the crown was easier and more comfortable.
Well, I was featured in this video at 0:13. I couldn’t see the logic behind this, but given your lifestyle I can see why this absolutely makes sense for you and your reasoning behind it. It’s great that Apple gives you the options. Love my Apple Watch! Great reply and video as always.
I don't really care about the reverse crown orientation lol but I wanna say that this is about the only video I found that nicely shows off the gold watch with that specific strap, nice close-ups etc. I needed that to make up my mind. Thanks.
also the crown does not jab your wrist when you are typing. i have this problem with men’s chronograph watches. they leave a dent in my wrist from where the crown is rubbing against the skin.
Viewing it from your perspective fixed many of my issues, I play rugby and I have my air pods in when I'm training, I had the same issue when I fell or came into contact with someone my music stops but ever since I started wearing the watch like you that issue got fixed.
I love the idea but first try almost impossible to get the band latched. Then lightbulb, swap bands to the new orientation. I think this is going to stick with me, once I get over the new button location.
I wear mine on right arm but I don’t use my fingertip to push the crown, I bend my finger and push with the side while holding the other side with my thumb. It doesn’t turn sideways.
I wear mine that way too, I do it because I cycle a lot and when I stand up on the pedals and lean down on my wrists I often press the crown thus stopping my workout, just like your roller derby issue.
I wear mine exactly like you do on the same hand. My wrist doesn't bump the button when I bend my wrist and as a server by occupation it's better for me this way
My IT professional daughter wears it as you do for much the same reasons and has since she got her series 1 soon after release. I am more traditional, however, and perhaps just to lazy to swap it around. It hasn't been a problem. Good to have choice.
I didn’t even know this was a thing. I wear mine on my left wrist and at work I have to wear gloves. With the crown on the right the gloves constantly wake the phone and ends up opening random apps and I always found this super annoying! This fixes that and like you stated actually feels like it makes more sense! Kudos to you!!!
Yep I always wear mine like that because when I wore it the other way every time I would bend my wrist it would set off the watch, esp when I would bench press, once I switched it though, no issues
+Nick Lemen American female here that uses Australian female Siri. Sometimes I forget the default Siri is not an Aussie and I get so confused. Lol I can't go back to anything else.
I saw a Taiwanese RUclipsr wear the same way and I decided to give it a try when I purchase my Apple Watch S6, no regrets or annoyance whatsoever~ sorta feel the same as Fitbit (my previous watch). Glad to find more people wearing it this way~
I used to wear mine like this (for all of about 15 seconds) before someone told me I was wearing it wrong. My co workers set up the watch for me, so I didn’t really question them. But after a few daysㅡ just like you I ended up pressing the buttons on the side 24/7 when getting up. I do a lot of crouching and sitting randomly around my place of employment and when I go to get up I generally fold my left wrist back to help get up. So my hand was constantly pressing the crown.
I’ve worn the watch almost the same as you from the first version, same reason for the mic, same reason for the wrist bending and hitting both buttons. The only different in your vs mine is the crown is in the top. Why, because balance didn’t matter to me. My fingers are long and I may be more ambidextrous. I’m more right handed, but I wear it on my right wrist. My left long index finger goes to the top left corner of the Watch, whiskey my left hand long thumb pushes in in the crown. The other three left fringes rest on top of my right hand comfortably. I can scroll with the thumb and crown and select with the index finger, or use my left index finger to scroll and select. Although I agree the mic is a lot better in the series 3 vs the original one, I still like the speaker pointing to my fingers since I have trouble hearing, this way I can simply raise my hand towards my right side of the face and hear the conversation better. As you said, it’s been an option from the start to fit all kinds of people and lifestyles, and it’s ultimately up to you.
Thank you for pointing this out. As a lefty who wears the watch on his left arm - this tip makes it so much easier for me to control with my right hand. Brilliant as always. Your advice as always is informative, helpful and spot on.
Still applies to Series 5. Superior way for sure. Now the crown doesn't dig into the back of my hand whenever I make my hand and arm 90 degrees. Looks different, but I like it a lot more.
This makes so much more sense. I turned off Emergency Auto-Call for fear of holding the button while flexing my wrists. I could re-enable it with this orientation. It's especially bad if you are wearing gloves.
I change the crown inside of my left from the outside... When driving at work I kept hitting my wrist and changing the face it was kind of annoying so now I’m a try it the crown on the inside of my left wrist
I’m so trying this. I had to disable the emergency call setting on mine; apparently it dials 9-1-1 automatically when the side button is pressed for so long. When I’m working or cleaning, sometimes my wrist is bent at a 90° angle (or less!) for an extended amount of time and that often makes my the back of hand press against my watch buttons. Luckily, I heard the 9-1-1 operator speaking both times, before help was actually sent. 😅
I have been wearing mine this way from day one before anyone else knew you could and i still love it it makes much better sense to use it and wear it this way. It should have been this way standard
I've been wearing my watch like this because I do Crossfit and my workout would pause every time I did a handstand or any grip on the bar which involves wrist extension - this is exacerbated if I wear gloves. Another thing I do to protect my watch from being scratched or broken by Kettlebells or other object is to wear it with the face on my wrist as a temporary measure. I'd love a setting which would properly lock the watch and deactivate the pause function.
I've started wearing mine in left side crown orientation recently and I'm still getting used to it. I switched because I have fat girl arms but normal human wrists so my watch sits to where if I have my hand bent upwards as if I'm carrying something or working out, the back of my hand presses against the crown and activates Siri. I also coach roller derby and I think most of my skaters take their apple watches off at practice. I'll have to mention this benefit to them.
I have always wore it that way from day two… and since it may be configured whichever way anyone wants, I didn't know this was a thing or not… it indeed just seemed the best way to wear it, protecting the buttons…
Ooooo I’m going to have to try this out! I always hate when you bend your wrist and the button presses and Siri starts talking. I also work as a paramedic and when I have to do compressions it just messes with the watch.
I had no idea!! I do a lot of yoga and hand balance work so this literally fixed the issue of accidentally summoning Siri or calling emergency services when doing press ups and handstands etc !! Thank youuuuu
Having worn an Apple Watch for less than 24 hours, I am already agreeing with this issue of ergonomics and will be giving "Reverse Crown Orientation" a try. however, concerning roller derby and other activities where the wrist comes into contact with protective/support equipment, etc. (wrist straps, barbells, kettle bells, dumbbells, etc. in weight lifting & crossfit) give the ActionSleeve armband by TwelveSouth a try - that was the very first accessory I ordered when I ordered my Apple Watch
I love the ActionSleeve and actually have a review of it coming! It's not perfect for roller derby because too much arm contact with opposing players, but I adore it for weight lifting.
I was also thinking about this, same issue with motorcycle gloves and accidentally calling emergency services because the glove is pressing against the buttons. But on the other hand, if you have a coat on you have to pull your sleeve up much more to acces the buttons. I guess it just depends which bothers you more. Accidental button presses is something you never want I think. They should put buttons on the bottom for your thumb to be even more natural ;)
Ok, I’ve tried it. For about 10 mins... It didn’t work for me because of hairy arms, they kindof get in between your finger and the wheel. That doesn’t really work very well :)
Omg I had no idea that this was even out of the ordinary. Honestly everyone should try it. I hated using it on my right hand so I switched it over and for the first day kept clicking the crown or taking screenshots so I flipped it just like that. I’ve used it like this for 2 years and I’ve never even thought of it as being out of place until I saw this.
I've recently switched to reverse crown, too. While the look seems odd to me, I grew tired of constantly accidentally pressing either button when bending my wrist all the way. That happens every time I do street workout (pull-ups and other exercises on metal bars), push-ups or cycle on my road bike (drop handlebars).
I really appreciate this video. I know people who are left handed flip the screen and wear it on the right. I never though about using this and I think I'm gonna keep it this way
Just love your videos , ALWAYS straight to the point and informative with real world reviews and not sitting at a desk with ambient lighting !!! 🙌🏾👍🏾🤙🏾
I’ve always used watches this way. Even before the Apple Watch. If you do any kind of activity that requires a lot of wrist bending you’d get the analog watches crown marked in your hand
Ive had my watch since the start and starting in the norma orientation and liked it. Butttt at the gym basically every workout my hand and wrist would end up hitting the button. I started wearing it in reverse like you and I Never had any problems. I would switch it back to the normal orientation for after the gym but that got to be too much flipping in a day for me. I like it better like you have it now I haven't switched back to scroll/button facing my wrist in probably a year and a half now.
I agree with you. I’ve always worn my I watch this direction, it just felt better. Also, I was tired of taking screenshots every time I bent my wrist too much.
I wear my watch like this too... I find it easier too use, also whenever I wash my hands I’m less scared of getting water into the device. As, with my old Series 0, water got into the Digital Crown and/or the Bruno and ruined the watch. So now, water could only get into the speakers, or vents, and with the Water feature, I can eject not if not all the water.
Great idea. I do Olympic weightlifting and the way I hold the barbell makes my wrist press the crown and holds it there and it makes the Apple Watch do weird things. I will definitely be trying this out from now on. Thank you!
I think you totally made sense and great idea! I also think it’s incredible that you only had one scratch on your original Apple Watch even playing roller derby! Thank you again for making me feel confident and comfortable to rock the Apple Watch series 3 without case or screen protector, looks so much better that way.
Warren Rohr I’ve never seen anyone using a case or a screen protector on the watch, I never thought someone would wear those things, they look horrible haHahHa. And if scratches bother you so much, you should consider buying the stainless steel version, I had one, and the screen was almost unscratchable, once I bumped into a metal handrail and when I checked, there was painting on my screen, I just removed it with my nail and it was still perfect. You will get a lot of light scratches on the body though, but it still looks good, unlike the aluminium ones
Ricardo Fialho Henriques Cool thanks for the reply! I’ve been rocking it without any case or screen protector and love it and I totally would’ve got the stainless steel Version but I couldn’t afford it I’m happy with the aluminum one it’s holding up so far.
I love this idea it totally makes sense talking to the speaker I’m constantly talking to my watch and it’s never picking up because it’s covered by my sleeve thank you for posting this video this is the way I’m going to wear my watch for an outline also using the crown make sense to because it is awkward when it’s on the right side but on the left it is so much easier
I swear you look like a different person in every.single.frame.
This is what happens when you train with the faceless men.
iMore Game of Thrones reference, nice.
Who said it’s the same person
zahoor kamal most likely the iPhone X will update what it knows about your face and it's many shapes over time as you scan yourself which would be how you could do things like grow beards and change other attributes without it being a problem.
As a busy modern tech woman should! 😇
Accidentally hitting the crown happens when lifting weights or swinging a golf club. Wearing the crown in reverse prevents this from happening, too.
"Hey, Siri, what's the weather today?" "I dunno. You're outside staring at the sky. Why don't you tell me."
lol
She was cheating when she said that “hey Siri wus the weather today” she was holding on the crown button lmao!
dEs'S WORLD well pressed or not, still requires mic to speak to siri so..

I have the same problem with the button going off when I bend my wrist. So trying this!!!
For someone using a wheelchair, this reversed orientation makes it easier to use your watch... I tried it out, and am hooked! Thanks for suggestion
I just switched mine and it is WAY better. I bet this solves my problem i had while wearing gloves while cycling... Thanks!
Can you create a grocery/shopping list on the new watch, so the iPhone can be left @ home when going to the store?
Michael Woodhead you can’t create new lists, but you can add stuff to existing lists.
I have the same issue when i play golf, Every time i make a swing i activate Siri or close the golf app I'm using.
I’ll have to try the reverse orientation because I often push the crown in when bending my wrist

Where did you get that band. I can't find them anymore (the circular buckle where the strap goes inside the band). Please provide link.
can I have your series 2 apple watch since you moved on to the 3?

Yep I always wear mine like that because when I wore it the other way every time I would bend my wrist it would set off the watch, esp when I would bench press, once I switched it though, no issues
Ok now I understand the reason why you wear your Apple Watch upside down. Now you can make a video why you use the male Siri voice. :D 2:07
marcel151 Simple. She’s a female who prefers male assistants as I’m a male who prefers female assistants.
Australian male Siri is the best Siri. (It actually sounds the most natural out of all the Siris in my opinion.)
+Nick Lemen American female here that uses Australian female Siri. Sometimes I forget the default Siri is not an Aussie and I get so confused. Lol I can't go back to anything else.
I use the British male and sounds as if I have an awesome butler 😂

As an industrial engineer who values ergonomics, this was insightful. I’m trying this with my Series 3.

I'll have to mention this benefit to them.
i never knew that this was in the settings just switched mine as it looks like it just works far better. i am already a fan.
I have always wore it that way from day two… and since it may be configured whichever way anyone wants, I didn't know this was a thing or not… it indeed just seemed the best way to wear it, protecting the buttons…
Wearing it this way will also keep you from making unintentional emergency calls.
When swimming it might be a good idea to reverse it because if you dive or swim fast more water pressure will be against the mic and speaker
Ooooo I’m going to have to try this out! I always hate when you bend your wrist and the button presses and Siri starts talking.
I also work as a paramedic and when I have to do compressions it just messes with the watch.
Serenity? I think that’s your name - awesome tip! As a Mac consultant I’m always asked for tips, this will be my new one and point them to this video!
12 south sells a shoulder strap for the Apple Watch for use when you wear that kind of gear
Question, is your watch gold or rose gold?
Emely Aguilar Gold! It’s the new Series 3 shade.
I used to wear mine that way too.
It is useful if you do push-ups.
I do the same cause I keep hitting the crown when I bent my wrist.
Thanks for sharing this. I was always annoyed with pressing the crown when doing push ups!
You’re allowed to flip orientation depending on what wrist you wear it on...
Changed immediately to this orientation after seeing your video! Thanks !!
I’ve been rocking it without any case or screen protector and love it and I totally would’ve got the stainless steel Version but I couldn’t afford it I’m happy with the aluminum one it’s holding up so far.
how do u know michel i was surprised to see him here!
abdul reeyas He’s a friend of the site!
thanks for the reply and by the way love your style of presentation and reviewing!
I just switched it last night and I adapted instantly. Much less annoying at the gym, and it actually feels more intuitive.
